STATE FUNERAL ‘DIRECTORS OPEN "MEETING TODAY
; Clinics and Talks on 4-Day |
Parley Here; Attendance To Count on Licenses.
The 57th annual convention of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association was to open today for a four-day meeting at. the Indiana University building at the Fair Grounds. Attendance at the convention is to count as credit toward the legal requirements of- educational work by funeral directors and embalmers for renewal of licenses.
Following the opening of the convention by Dwight R. Bakers Dayton, Ind. president .of the group, the invocation was to have been given by the Rev. John S. Albert, Gethsemane Lutheran Church pastor, the roll was to be called and the code of ethics read. The morning session was to close with a clinic conducted by Professors R. G. Deniston, Chicago, and Lloyd W. Howe, Indianapolis.
Humorist Is on Program
Edwin RB. Weeks, Binghamton, N. Y., humorist, was to speak on the afternoon program starting at 1:30 Pp. m.” A young men’s period and greetings from the Indiana Funeral Supply Salesman’s Club were on the program. A banquet is to be held at the Red Gables night club at 6:30 p. m. under the sponsorship of the funeral supply men’s club. Bert S. Gadd, local undertaker, is to give a report of the national convention in Louisville at tomorrow morning's session along with reports from county and district erganizations. Addresses by Mr. Weeks and H. Merle Smith, Kansas City, Mo., also are.on tomorrow morning’s «program, President Baker will give his annual message." Mr. Weeks will make his final ap= pearance before the convention at the afternoon session tomorrow.
Banquet to Be Held
A banquet, sponsored by the Alumni Association of the Indiana College of Embalming, is to be held at the Gold Room, Hotel Antlers, tomorrow at 6:30 p. m.
WASHINGTON HIGH'S CHOIRS TO BE HEARD
The combined choirs of Washington High School's music department, direction of Miss Maude Delbridge, music instructor, is to sing at a special convocation pregram tomorrow at 10 a. m. Also to be heard are the string and woodwind ensembles. The choir is to sing “Pilgrim Fathers,” by Percy Fletcher; “Build ‘Thee More Stately Mansions,” “All Trough . the Night,” and “O, Gentle Moon,” by Stephen. The woodwind ensemble is to play “The Minuet,” from the Septet, Opus 20, by Beethoven, and the string group will be heard in the “New World Symphony,” by Dvorak.
OHIO MAN CHARGED WITH DRUNKENNESS
Fred. G. Bennett, 41, of Bellefontaine, O., was charged with drunkenness and vagrancy today by police who said they found him while he had six taxicab drivers lined up on the sidewalk at Woodlawn and Virginia Aves.. Three radio cars answered the report of a holdup in progress. When
they arrived, they said Bennett was |
standing in front of the drivers, whose hands were held skyward. His right hand was in his coat pocket as though he were carrying & gun, it’ was reported. He was unarmed and a little tipsy, according to the officers.
SUES ROLLER DERBY MANAGERS FOR $1000 OE er
Miss Frederica McDowell $1000 damages in a suit on file in Superior Court 3 today against Edward P. Snider and Leo Seltzer, managers of the Roller Derby held at the Fair Grounds. Miss McDowell charged that she was injured seriously when a reserved seat section, erected by the defendants, collapsed during Sunday night's performance. t
