At least, midwest universities are sharing in the génerally increased demand for college graduates this year, a survey of 76 universities and technical schools by the Northwestern National Life Insurance Co. shows. Throughout the country, corporation scouts are competing for promising 1937 graduates with more and better jobs at starting salaries ranging from $90 to $300 higher monthly in some lines of work than last year’s, the report said. : The report continued: At 62 of the 76 hols” piacement directors reportéd increases in jobs %available ranging: from ‘“considerable” to “several hundred per cent” over the 1936 volume of employment calls. In Indiana, employment calls were found to be from 10 to 50 per cent greater than in 1936.

The school of business reported there are 50 per cent more employment calls this year than last at salaries 10 per cent to 20 per cent higher. | At Purdue’s school of engineering, it was said that of the 106 companies which already have sent representatives to interview seniors, the average monthly salary offered was $118.94 as compared to $112.88 in 1936. Indiana University reported the demand much above the 1936 level, adding that the number of offers already made to seniors registered for jobs exceeds the number-of students interested. Likewise, University of Cincinnati officials expressed the opinion that “all our graduates in engineering will have from one to three jobs to select: from.” Demand Is Greater : In Kentucky. Kentucky Universit,’ reported “much better employment demand this year; we have not enough high-ranking men to go around.” It was added that starting salaries range from 15 per cent to 20 per cent higher. Apparently, graduates in the top one-third of the class are most in demand throughout the country. In many schools seniors with superior records have from three to six offers apiece to choose from.
