On Schedule After Races
Reunions With Friends From Other Cities Anticipated.
By BEATRICE BURGAN NDIANAPOLIS racing fans are moying in the panorama of Churchill Downs’ Derby Day today. In smart spectator outfits they will be eddying through the grandstands| and paddock, with visitors from all parts of the country. The day will be punctuated with unexpected encounters with old friends from other cities. : After the races there will be parties at country clubs and private’ homes, to entertain the visitors bei they return home. r. and Mrs. Conrad Ruckelshaus, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ruckelshaus, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fortune Jr., William Fortune and Kurt Matthews will make up one party of local fans. They will be at the Louisville Country Club celebration tonight.
Wears Blue Outfit
Mrs. Conrad Ruckelshaus' outfit will be a blur of blue ig the picture. With her blue light“ wool tweed three-piece suit, she will wear a skyblue linen blouse and a matching antelope hat. Her hat will be ofi-the-face, with a. cutout, crown, perked up with a bow. \ Mrs. Thomas Ruckelshaus’ choice for the day was a brown dnd white polkadot silk ensemble and a straw hat with a crown formed by chartreuse and tan chiffon which end in streamers down the back. Mrs. Fortune's dark-blue and white print silk gown will be matched with a blue straw hat trimmed in white ribbon. Mr. and Mrs. William Macomber, Kendallville, met Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Cadick to motor to the Derby. Mrs. Cadick’s best bet on her costume before she left was a yellow knit suit, with -a lacy-stitch blouse dotted in green and rust embroidery. Her hat and coat are yellow and her green purse picks up the color of the blouse trimming.
Governor to Attend
Gov. and Mrs. Townsend with their daughter, Miss Lucille Townsend, and son Max, went to the sporting event with Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Gremelspacher, Jasper. They expected to join the party in Thomas Taggart’s box Mrs. Townsend picked out a brown wool suit with a cape and beige accessories as her Derby Day outfit. Miss Townsend took alonga brown linen sport suit and brown straw hat for her appearance. Mr. Taggart was prepared to entertain his daughter Eva; his sisters, Mrs. W. Richardson Sinclair and Miss Lucy Taggart; Mr. and Mrs. Fabien Sevitsky, Mr. and Mrs. W. Hathaway Simmons, Gov. and Mrs. Murphy of Michigan, Clara Bow and Rex Bell, Hollywood; Harry Hopkins, WPA Administrator, and Mrs. Hopkins; Col. and Mrs. «Horatio B. Hackett and Mr. and Mrs. George E. Allen, Washington.
Breakfast Opens Day
Mr. and Mrs. James PF. Frenzel joined Mrs. M. H. Moon's party and attended her Derby breakfast. Mrs. Frenzel is to be outfitted in a greybeige spectator sports suit, trimmed with fox, and matched with a turban of the suit material. Miss Anne Ayres and William H. Stafford Jr. joined Robert Snyder, Louisville. Miss Martha. Doherty welcomed , Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kuhn, Misses Helen and Ruth Sheerin for an annual Derby Day visit. Mr. and Mrs. Val Nolan met Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Nolan, Evansville, at French Lick and will be with John K. Jennings and Wash3 3 ington friends. Next week-end many of these same amusement seekers will help | celebrate the opening of the In- ' dianapolis Country Club. The first dance is to be held next Saturday night, and on May 29 the annual Speedway race entertainment is scheduled. Mr. and Mrs. William H. Wemmer are entertainment committee chairmen. ;

Public Welfare, is to talk on “The the Public Welfare Field.” Miss Pigeon, Welfare Department special consultant, has made a survey of 18 State institutions. She has made recommendations for their development and establishment of a central staff to assume supervisory powers under the provisions of the new Welfare Act.
