Mother Admits She Once Owned Gun.
By United Press LOS ANGELES, May 8.—Fifteen years later, the District Attorney's office today started a new search for clues to the slaying of William Desmond Taylor, motion picture producer. Two ~investigators went to Santa Barbara in search of a pearl handled pistol. It belonged to Mrs. Charlotte Shelby, mother of Mary Miles Minter, the pretty, curlyhaired movie star of the silent picture era who was enamored of Taylor, he died, and has since remained faithful to his memcry by refusing to marry. Mrs. Shelby told the County Grand Jury Thursday that she had such a pearl-handled gun

It left the rails when a broken brake rod dropped into a switch frog. The other cars were derailed but remained on the elevation. Frank Sweeney, 36, of 3839 Hoyt ve, a member of the railroad wrecking crew, received a fractured left ankle when he fell from the crane on which he was working. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital.
