NEW YORK, May 7.—

Stocks fluctuated over a nar-

| row range in light dealings

today and finished irregularly higher. Bonds firmed. steady, rubber higher ‘and grains lower.

Railroad stocks were prominent, with heaviest tufnover in New York Central,

| ing’ with a 12,000 share block. Atchi-

son made a new high at 94%, up a point. Southern Pacific crossed 60 for a rise of more than a point. Traders were impressed with a

. contraseasonal rise of 21,241 cars in

the weekly car loadings report which showed a new high for the year at 982,423 cars. There was a tendency Yo go slow, however, since Europe was cautious about making commitments. Some traders took profits in carriers after yesterday's late ndvance that sent Atchison up more than four points. Steel shares opened firm and then eased. Better income outlook for farmers helped farm implement shares. Glass issues were strong. Fertilizer issues were in demand with American Agricultural Chemical at 911;, up 2. Communications were mixed. Copper issues dipped.

LEADING GRAINS SUFFER LOSSES | IN CHICAGO PITS

Corn Slips From Record as Profit-Taking Comes to Forefront.

By United Press CHICAGO, May 7.—Wheat, orn and oats declined on the Chicago Board of Trade today. At the close wheat was 1% to 2% cents lower, May $1267; new corn was % to 1! cents lower, May $1.33%; old corn was off #. to up cent, May $1.323,; oats were 2 to 2 cents lower, May 47! cents. Liquidation in the May crop, selling of new crop months and rains

jin the Southwest and lower cables

combined against wheat. Corn, especially the May delivery which sold at a new high since early 1925 yesterday, suffered from profit |‘ taking and cash house selling. Oats worked lower in the face of slight activity. Buying power in wheat was feeble and insufficient to reverse the trend. _ Resting orders to buy July were uncovered around $1.18, but had little effect in stemming the decline. Soybeans were firmer.
