CURTAILED HOG RECEIPTS RAISE PRICES 5 CENTS

Vealer Market Stronger Late In Trading; Cattle Sales Slow.

Hog prices responded slightly to a sharp curtailment in arrivals, the market ranging steady to 5¢ higher, according to the Bureau: of Agricultural Economics, U. S. Department of Agriculture. Weights below 160 pounds showed the advance, top rising to $10.30. Trade was slow in getting under way, sellers making a long stand for a 5-10c upturn. Sows were steady, bulk at $9.15 to $9.60, with good lightweights upward to $9.65. Hog receipts were estimated at 5000 head. Sluggishness again dominated the trade in fed steers and year- | lings. Early sales were steady to weak, but before a clearance could be realized values promised again 50 decline 25c in extremes. head steers sold up to $14. Heifers, cows and bulls sold steady, the supply of heifers being very small. Odd head touched $10.50., Top on sausage bulls held at $6.75. Veal Sales Strengthen Early indications were that vealers prices would be about steady with Tuesday, but after trading got under way, a strong market - developed. Good to choice Kinds cashed from $9.50, to $10. Not enough lambs were on gal today to - establish a. magkes Slaughter sheep moved, at steady rates. A $5.50 top was established on wooled slaughter ewes, with clipped descriptions reaching a high of $4.
