i ' By United Press NEW YORK, May 4—Alfred P. Sloan Jr. replaced Lammot du Pont as chairman of the board of the General Motors Corp. today, after a general shake-up. of the high executive personnel which reduced the representation of Morgan and du Pont interests .in executive capacities in the companyls affairs. Changes were agreed upon at a directors’ mefeting yesterday. A common dividend of $1 a share for the first quarter was declared. It is payable June 12 to stock of record of May 13. | Succeeding “Sloan as. president of the corporation was: William 8S. Knudsen, who, as executive vice president, was the No. 1 representative of the firm in the strike settlement negotiations with! Governor Murphy of Michigan and John L. Lewis. The finance committee and executive committee were abolished and in the dissolution of the finance committee the totowing were dropped: [ George F. Baker, Henry du Pont, Irene du Pont, Pierre’ S. du Pont, Junius S. Morgan, Charles S. Mott, Seward Prosser and John J. Raskob.

Times Special DELPHI, Ind., May 4.—Charles Dana Deardorf, christened the “Human Dynamo” at the Ripley Odditorium of the Chicago Century of Progress, when he lighted electric bulbs and neon tubes merely by touching them, has turned evangelist and will enter the pulpit soon.

BUILDING STARTS SOON AT ILLINOIS AND 38TH

Construction of a one-story business and storeroom building on the southéast corner at Illinois and 38th Sts. is’ to be starfed soon, North Side Realtors were told yesterday. The building is to cost approximately $60,000 and is being constructed by the Mutual Realty Corp. A total of $208,000 in real estate transactions was reported by organization members at the luncheon. During the first four months of this year, transactions closed amounted to $1,336,270.

GROCERIES TO GLOSE

AT 1 P.M. TOMORROW

Grocery patrons today were urged to do their shopping early as 800 grocers prepared to begin Wednesday half-holidays tomorrow afternoon. ! The mid-week holiday is to. remain in effect through May, June, July and August. Chain groceries as well as independent dealers have joined in the agreement, which affects 4000 employees. Beginning tomorrow, stores are to close each Wednesday at 1 p. m.
