MORE JOBS DUE IN 27 LINES OF STATE INDUSTRY
Two Per Cent Gain Over April Employment Level Is Customary.
Employment expansions of 2 per cent or more over April levels normally occur during May in 27 lines of Hoosier industry, Martin F. _ Carpenter, Indiana State Employment Service Director, announced today.
Twenty other state industries curtail their employment at least 2 per cent, he said. “The largest normal seasonal expansion in employment during May,” Mr. Carpenter said, “may be expected in street, road and sewer construction; ice and ice cream manufacture; paving material production and painting and decorating. “During May employment reaches or nears its year’s peak in hotels, manufacture of electric and steam railro cars, machine shop products pumps, wooden boxes, paint and varnish manufacture, concrete products, painting and decorating. Spring peaks are reached in the cleaning and dyeing industry, in wholesale trade and in lime production, “The meat packing industry, especially important to Indianapolis and Indiana, begins a long upward curve after touching bottom in employment during April.
Normal Gains Listed
“Industries normally adding employees during May, and the percentage of change in employment from April, are: Street, road and sewer construction, 37.4 per cent; ice manufacture, 15.3; paving material, 14.5; painting and decorating, 14; ice cream, 13.9; canning, 11.2; quarrying and nonmetallic mining, 10.8; brick, stone and cement construction, 10.5; butter and cheese, 10.2; beverages, 9.8, and general contracting, 9.7. “Employment normally declines 2 per cent or moré from April to May in these lines: Fertilizers, agricultural implements, radios and phonographs, theaters, retail trade, soap, food preparations, lighting equipment, patent medicines, smelting and refining, dyeing and finishing of textiles, tobacco, chemicals, wood turned and carved, boots and shoes, and nonferrous metal alloys.”

AIR FIRM OFFICIAL’S NURSE ASKS $25,000
- By United Press NEW YORK, April 29.—Asking $25,000 “for services rendered,” Paula Sherman, young brunet, has filed suit in Supreme Court against the estate of the late Harris Hanshue, former president of Transcontinental & Western Air. Miss Sherman alleges that she acted as ‘nurse, companion, secretary and financial adviser” to Mr. Hanshue the last 18 months of his life without compensation. He died in January at the age of 55. Counsel for Miss Sherman said Mr. Hanshue had promised to “take care of her.”

PUT IN SCREENS NOW, | HEALTH BOARD URGES
Fly Menace Calls for Early Action, Experts Say.
A warning to “screen-up” and “clean up” for an early attack against the summer fly plague was issued today by the Health Board. Because flies are carriers of disease and breed in winter rubbish accumulations, Dr. Herman G. Morgan urged the public to put screens up early and rid premises of trash.
to issue orders for removal of all rubbish which would serve as a breeding ground for flies. At a conference with Dr. Morgan yesterday, sanitary officers and food and milk inspectors outlined their clean-up campaigns. , ,
