U. S. Steel Breaks, Below Par in Late Trade.
By United Press
Ww
NEW YORK, April 29.—|
The small group of
gold |
stocks listed on the New York | Stock Exchange broke to new |
lows today along with gold shares on the London, and African exchanges.
Paris |
Other sections of the list enjoyed |
recovery early Toward noon ac-
a substantial shorts tock profits. tivity noon prices slipped back from highs. Pressure on gold shares, which unsettled world markets, was caused by persistence of rumors that the United States would invoke some measures to check gold imports. Homestake Mining, highest priced gold stock, dropped 24 points to 340. An attempt late in the session to test the list with U. S. Steel drove | its shares . below par and weak-! ened other issues, but was dis-| couraging to the professionals who | began it. Steel came back above 190 and other issues met support. | DOW-JONES STOCK AVERAGES 30 INDUSTRIALS +0.41 | —1.39 —1.90 —1.22

HOG PRICES HERE STEADY AGAINST “»| OTHER CENTERS
Buyers Fail to Force Veal Prices Lower on High Quality.
By 2) of Agricultural Economics S Department of Agriculture
Win only 5000 hogs on sale today, prices locally held steady despite lower trends at other larger centers. Light hogs scaling between 160 | and 200 pounds were in best request and sold readily on shipping account. There was a little stickiness to the trade on late rounds, particularly on weights above 300 pounds. However, no savings were effected by the buying side. Top of the market held at $10.30 on choice 210 to 225 pound weights. Sows bulked. at $9.25 to $9.75, or
steady with Wednesday. A few smooth lightweights continued to
