SAFETY COUNCIL WILL SEND FIVE BOYSTOPARLEY

Group Will Go to Washington; Reduction Reported In School Accidents.

The Indianapolis Safety Education Council today prepared to select five traffic patrol boys to be sent by the Hoosier Motor Club to the National School Patrol Conference, Washington, May 19 to 25. All expenses are to be paid by the club.. At a Eouncil meeting yesterday, a reduction in school accidents was reported by William A. Evans, council chairman, for March ovar February.

Mr. Evans reported 103 accidents of all types in March against 138 in February. In March. 1936, accord-

ing, to Mr. Evans, there were 155 accidents.

Plan Summer Camp

Plans -for a summer camp for traffic patrol officers were outlined at the meeting. Mr. Evans said money had been received from schools for 40 boys to attend the camp. ‘Additional applications are being received daily. The Rev. J. R. Moore of Our

charge of safety education, first aid and swimming at the camp, to be held Aug. 30 at the Boy Scout Reservation. i i=. Sergt. A. C. Magenheimer is to be In charge of the safety education program and William Sanford, Technical High School, committee chairman of first-aid and swimming. Mrs. Florence Swegel, Technical High School, home economic teacher, is to supervise the camp meals. Sergt. Magenheimer reported safety talks have been given by him and his aids to 30,500 children. The National Safety Council, through Miss Marian Telford,’ field secretary, telegraphed the local council it would co-operate in the traffic officers’ program.

PAIR SENTENCED IN POSTAL ROBBERIES

WAYNE, April 23.—Mahlon Lacrosse, 39, of Duluth, Minn., and Earl Putman, 42, of Ohio City, O., were sentenced in Federal Court late yesterday for rural postoffice robberies in which they obtained $20. Lacrosse, who was found guilty after a trial Wednesday, was given five-year terms on each of two counts. The terms of both men will run concurrently.

GROUND-SCHOOL AIR TRAINING TO BE GIVEN

Advanced instruction in groundschool aviation is to be offered by the trade school division of the Y. M. C. A. Night Schools beginning next Monday. John Haxton, who has been in charge of’ the elementary ground-school work being completed this week, is to have charge of the new class. The new course has been designed for persons desiring to pass Departmet of Commerce examination and

will be open only to students who have taken elementary work or have otherwise gained a fair knowledge of aviation.

DEATH OF FARMER, 70, LAID TO SUFFOCATION

By United Press i CANNELTON, April 23.—Coroner Earl Snyder today said George Cunningham, 70, recluse farmer found burned to death yesterday in a woods “near his home north of Tell City, was an accidental victim of

suffocation. The coroner said Mr. Cunningham died fighting a fire in the wooods four weeks ago.
