each of the State's 92 counties, Clyde Snoddy and M. W. MecBride, State parole agents, have been named by John H. Klinger, director, and Frank D. Hope, Supervisor of Paroles, to supervise paroled men | and women in Marion County. ‘In other counties. county Foe departments, directors, court attaches ~nd social workers have been or are to be named by the Correc- | tions Division. | Present Staff Retained |

" Mr. Klinger pointed out that the eight men and one woman parole | agents, now State employees, will continue to serve in populous coun- | ties and will be augmented by 90 | part-time agents. The State parole | agents also are to serve as district | parole officers. ~ The part-time parole agents, in | each county, will not receive salaries. The new parole procedure has been worked out, according to Mr. Klinger, on the theory that “those who| are on parole best can be helped | in their effort to be law-abiding | citizens by the welfare agencies of | their own community.”

Better Supervision Seen “The opportunity for giving bet- | ter and more intimate supervision | to persons on parole will be possible. | = . Instead of each parole agent having | from 200 to 300 cases on which to | -report monthly, the average will be between 12 and 14 to each reporting agency,” Mr. Klinger explained. | “The part-time parole agents in | each. county often times will know | more intimately how a former con- | vict is behaving than one of our agents who is compelled to travel miles to complete a check of his . cases each month,” Mr. Klinger said. As State Supervisor of Paroles Mr. Hope's supervision extends over paroled inmates of the Indiana State Prison, Indiana State Reformatory, Indiana State Farm and Indiana | Women's Prison. | Marion County has approximately 330 paroled prisoners.
