HOUSE VOTE ON TAX

PUBLICITY ANNOUNCED

Ey United Prdss WASHINGTON, April 22.—A House vote next week on the Doughton resolution to repeal income tax salary list publicity was assured foday by House Rules Committee action. Chairman Robert L. Doughton of the Ways and Means Committee said he hoped to bring up the resolution for action either Monday or Tuesday. The measure repeals an income tax law provision requiring the Treasury to submit annually to Congress the names of individuals receiving $15,000 or more in salary or bonuses from any one corporation. : The list, which carried this year more. than 30,000 names has been criticized as a “sucker list,” which could be utilized by commercial or money-raising groups.

FATHER DIVINE HIDES

IN SECLUDED ‘HEAVEN’

By United Press NEW YORK, April 22. — Father . Divine, bald-headed Negro “God,” was believed to be ‘“communing with the spirits” in one of his out-of-town “heavens” today, while police waited to charge him with assault in connection with the stabbing of a white man in his Harlem ‘“kingdom.” The cult leader apparently had no thought of surrender. His attorney, Arthur A. Madison, glared at reporters who suggested it. Madison said the father undoubtedly was annoyed at the police for broadcasting an alarm for his arrest and might defer his reappearance indef. indefinitely,

WAITRESS SLAIN IN NEW YORK HALLWAY

By United Press NEW YORK, April 22.—Irene Wades, a waitress, was slain today in the hallway of the apartment house in which she lived. A slash in her thigh severed an artery. Police said te location and nature of the wound seemed to mark the slayer as a sex maniac. The young woman bled to death within a few minutes. A Negro elevator boy, William Daswell, who said Miss Wades rode down in his car a few minutes before she was slain, was detained for questioning. Thomas Hickey, with whom the waitress was said to have been living, was taken into custody, but police said he was not under suspicion.
