have a certain amount of modesty and I just can’t lower myself to such practices. In no way am I a back number. I am considered attractive, wear all the latest fashions, and they're brief enough without adding another touch. Joe tells me that he loves me, but I've always had the idea that a man wanted his woman for himself alone. ANSWER—I cannot tell from your letter whether you have exaggerated your husband’s wish to make you conspicuous or not. We are so sensitive to the opinions of those we love that most of us tend to overreact toward suggestions we do not like. It may be that you have attached more significance to your husband's attitude than he intended. He might be utterly astonished if he knew that you took his remarks so seriously. Think now. serious and conservative whercas he is gay and reckless. are a conformist and he a nonconformist. Possibly he is one who enjoys shocking others whereas it is painful to you to be different. If so, you may have irked him to the point where he said more than he meant to goad you out of your nice, safe ‘little habits. I say this because so often one partner is amazed at the interpretation the other placed on some thoughtless remark. : It is indeed unusual for a husband to want his wife to step out of her role as a lady. He likes daring very well in the other fellow’s wife, but his own, like Caesar's, must be above reproach. Usually he Is suspicious and resentful of her efforts to attract other men, particularly if she resorts to burlesque show methods. For the less formal functions, the combination of red, white and blue is noted everywhere. Jewelers have designed modern tiaras that are more in keeping with modern hairdressing styles. The correct coronation hair styles have been fashioned by several professional hairdressers. Solution to Previous Problem By W. E. M'KENNEY American Bridge League Secretary HE manner in which a bridge player handles the more difficult situations which arise in the play of the hand is usually a stamp of his rank. Sometimes there are very poor bidders, and occasionally, because a player is proud of his playing skill, he needs it all because he overbids a trick or two on the strength of it. ‘In today’s hand South’s success or failure depended wholly on himself. East's double was based primarily on getting a heart lead. While he risked the loss of some points that way, if South made his contract, the risk seemed imperative. North’s hearts were solid enough to prevent East from running the suit, and. there appeared not the
slightest danger in the club suit, |
which should net five tricks, together with four tricks in spades and diamonds. East won the opening lead with the heart jack and returned a diamond. South played low. West won with the eight and returned another heart. This East won, and the return of a diamond was won by South's ace. : Now South laid down a small club, won with the ace in dummy, and wound up by going down two tricks for a loss of 1000 points. South had a much better way of playing the club suit. East's double and the heart play disclosed that he held five hearts. South should have played the queen of
clubs. When East failed to follow,

South then, by two leads through ‘West, could have picked up the outstanding clubs without the loss of a
trick, and fulfilled his contract, (Copyright, 1937, NEA Ee=rvice, Inc.)
