‘DISCIPLES HEAR PASTOR'S PLEA [EO T0 CONSOLIDATE
‘Nasty Head’ of Sectarianism Still Rises, Declares Coast Minister.
The Rev. LaVerne Taylor, Springfield, Ill, was to open the secondday session of the North American Christian Convention, speaking at 1:30. p. m. today in Cadle Tabernacle on “The Whole Church at Work.” -Other speakers were to include the Rev.- W. R. Walker, Columbus, O., and the Rev. Orval Morgan, Springfield, Ill. A plea for Christian unity was made last night by the Rev. George P. Taubman, Long Beach, Cal, Christian Church pastor. “In spite of our talk, the nasty head of sectarianism still rises -to poison believers,” the Rev. Mr. Taubman said. “But followers of Jesus Christ will be one in every essential sense when they submit to the crown rights of the King.”
Hate Fills World
“Authority guarantees unity and visiory, the speaker pointed out. “We talk about brotherhood and the man in the street laughs at us. For the world is filled with war and
hate. Everywhere there is hunger, nakedness, unemployment and strikes and leadership in all these things claims Christ as King. If Christ were King, these ills would be cured and real brotherhood would bless the world,” the Rev. Mr. Traubman said. “There never was a time when so much was said about Christian unity and so little done,” he said. Approximately 2500 ministers and church workers from all parts of the United States attended. The Rev. T. K. Smith, of Columbus, convention president, delivered fhe president's annual message.

Youth, 13, Winds Up in Detention Home After Crash.
A 13-year-old boy today was con- |
sidering the consequences of a “snitched” joy ride in his mother’s
automobile. It all started when he decided to borrow the car while his mother attended a theater near their home, he told police. Before she left, he took the extra ignition key from her purse, he said. She drove to the show, and
parked the car nearby. The boy said he followed her and, after she entered the theater, he took the car. He drove north on College Ave. But the car was too big for him to handle and went out of control in the 6200 block, striking a parked machine, The parked car’s owner saw the accident and told police the hoy turned his machine around and drove south on College Ave. He said he caught him after a brief chase and turned him over to police, who took him to the Detention Home.

against Warren Marr, reputed for-

Norman and Strange, who are free under $1,500 bond each on a previous count, pleaded not guilty and posted additional bonds of $1000 each. Marr, held in jail here since his arrest, has not been arraigned on the new charge. Marr is charged in the new affidavit with false pretense in connection with a cashier’s check for $1800 allegedly obtained from Mrs. Carrie Seeger. Authorities believe Marr swindled approximately $100,000 from residents in more than a dozen Indiana towns through stock deals. Two new affidavits filed against Norman charged him with violation of the securities law in receiving $180 commission from Marr on sale of $1800 worth of unregistered stock to Mrs. Seeger, and recommending an unregistered security to Frank Latendresse. 5 Similar affidavits were filed against Strange. He was charged with receiving $65 from Marr as| commission and recommending stock to Miss Myrtle Drukemiller.
