SOLDIER EARNS T0 PITCH COINS
AT HIS EXPENSE
Loses $50 in Game With Two Strangers, He Tells Police.
A soldier on furlough from Scho-
field Barracks, Honolulu, found it - an easy matter to be directed from
the Union Station to a downtown hotel. But the information proved much too costly, he complained to police today. Private H. P. McMahon told officers he was on his way to his home in Rochester, N. Y., yesterday when
he decided to spend the night in In-!
_dianapolis. He inquired of a man in the station the way to a good hotel. The stranger knew of one, in fact he was walking that direction Rimself. Private McMahon said they had gone a short distance when they met a third man who, coincidentally, was going to the hotel, too. One of them proposed they while the time away by pitching coins, odd man wins. The soldier told officers he seldom was odd man. and by the time they had reached their destination he had lost $30. : The men left together, he said.

STATE C. OF C. FIGHTS |
FREIGHT RATE HIKE
The Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. represented by Orewiler, assistant traffic manager,
today appeared before an Interstate |
Commerce commissioner in Chicago to oppose proposed increases in freight rates.
Increases from 10 to 15 per cent
are proposed for railroads in the Indiana area. The proposed increase, according to William H. Arnett, C. of C. managing director, would put state manufacturers at a
disadvantage with competitors and | more |
might result in diverting freight from railroads to trucks.

Although this dark-eyed girl is only 16, the police of St. Louis booked her as Mrs, Mildred Pershall, as the above picture was taken, and accused her of bigamously marrying two husbands. They said she married Harry Pershall in December and William Waller in April, giving her name as Kay Milly Cordillo.

| Owners Told to Trade Them
. 1 dered to trade in their open Fords
They are made at Gorky, according to the design of the 1930 American’ Ford. “Emmadines” are similar to the present Ford V-8 in body, but with a four-cylinder motor. They are de-4-signed in Russia and produced at the Ford Gorky plant. “Zis” are big sedans with straight-eight motors. Of the former 7000 Ford open types in Moscow, about 2500 have been exchanged already for “Emmadines.” About 48 “Zis” are in use. The Government ordered that private owners — there are relatively few—should get preference in tradeins. The difference is payable on the installment basis, with one or two years’ credit. “Emmadines” cost 10,000 roubles, “Zis” 30,000. The rouble is maintained at the official rate of five to the dollar, making the prices nominally $2000 and $6000. Buf there is no real comparison.
SOVIETS ORDER OPEN _FORDS OFF STREETS
For New Types.
By United Press MOSCOW, April 22—The Soviet Government today ordered all opentype Ford automobiles relegated to the provinces by July 15 in favor of two new Ford sedan types. Some 4500 Ford open cars were in operation here. Owners were or-
for new sedan-type “M-1"” cars, called “Emmadines,” or for “Zis” type sedans, : The type ordered off Moscow streets comprises the majority of automobiles in the Soviet Union.
