HOG AND CATTLE
PRIGES RISE ON SMALL SUPPLY
Porkers Gain 10 Cents Early; Cows and Vealers Up Considerably.
Bv Bureau of Agricultural Economics U. 8. Department of Agriculture Hog prices responded readily today to curtailed supplies. A run of around 5000 head encouraged sellers to try for a substantial upturn and the market was established fairly early at a 10 cent advance, Tap reached $10.35, the highest of the month, and was paid for choice 225 to 250 pound weights.
Sows shared in the 10 cent ad- |
vance, bulking at $9.25 to $9.75, with light kinds of good grade upward to $9.85. Cattle Limited Also A limited showing of cattle locally kept the trading on the firm side. Steers and yearlings were fairly active and fully steady, the bulk moving at $9.25 to $11.50. Heifers ruled steady to strong, mostly at $9 to $9.75. with a park load upward to $10.50.
| Cows were very active and strong, | cenis
sometimes as much as 25 higher. A few choice cows reached $89. Cutter grades brought $4 to $5.50; common and medium grades $5.75 to $6.75 and good grade, $7 to $7.75. Sausage bulls at $6.50 down were steady. : Vealers Steady Vealers found a steady outlet for the most part, but supplies were almost insufficient to meet trade requirements and some later sales were 50 cents up. ‘Shippers paid upward to $11 for ‘some choice kinds cleared from $10 to $10.50, with mediums mostly $8 to $9.50. Choice heavy calves were salable upward to $9.50, but few were on hand eligible above $8.50, . Not enough sheep and lambs arrived to test values and the trade was quotable nominally steady, or upward to around $11.25 for shorn lambs and $13.25 on woolskins.
