HINT GRISWOLD SENATE CHOICE

Peru Congressman Has Support of Townsend Forces, Reports Indicate.

By DANIEL M. KIDNEY Times Staff Writer WASHINGTON, April 16.—Rep. Glenn Griswold, Peru, is being groomed for the Senate by the Townsend administration, according to reports here. Alex Pursley, Hartford City, backer of Governor Townsend, is said to be managing the move. He has been a close friend and supporter of the Fifth District representative during his four terms here. Senator VanNuys, whose first term expires next year, long has been reported at odds with the old McNutt organization. The most likely candidate of former Governor McNutt was said to be Samuel Jackson, Ft. Wayne. But with Mr. McNutt in the Philippines and Mr. Townsend in the Governor's office, Rep. Griswold is said to be the choice. With the nomination in conven-= tion and the organization perfected under the McNutt regime, the State

House probably will be in control, |
