ORCHESTRA HEAD

Philadelphia Leader Signed To Conduct Symphony For Three Years.

Fabien Sevitzky, Philadelphia Sinfonietta leader, is to be the concuctor of a reorganized Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for three

years beginning next season, it was announced definitely today by the new Indiana State Symphony Society executive board.

The program, which will put the

organization on a “major orchestra” basis, was announced tentatively early this month and confirmed at a special meeting last night in the Columbia Club. Definite 'announcement had been withheld until the results of a donation campaign were available. Aside from sale of subscription tickets, the fund is within a “comparatively moderate amount” of the budget, the board said. ?

elected at last night's meeting are William H. Ball, Muncie, president; Arthur V. Brown, treasurer; William Ray Adams, Dr. G. H. A. Clowes, Otto Frenzel, Theodore B. Griffith, Charles J. Lynn, Dr. L. A. Pittinger, Muncie, Peter C. Reilly, Leonard A. Strauss and Herbert M. Woollen. “It is hoped,” Dr. Clowes said, “that the public which loves music and concedes the importance of a fine symphony orchestra as an asset to a community will consider it a personal duty to guarantee the remaining sum in subscriptions of any amount.” More complete plans for next year, together with the list of guest soloists now available, are to be announced at the season’s closing concert Tuesday night in the Murat.

SLAYER OF HUSBAND TAKES TO BED AGAIN

By United Press LOS ANGELES, April 15 —Mis. Helen Wills Love, who lay six days in a coma while a court waited to sentence her for slaying her husband, was back in bed today, reportedly in a relapse as the time approached for her removal to prison. She is under sentence to seven years in the Tehachapi Women’s Prison and is scheduled to be moved there from the County Jail Saturday.

SCHOOL ENROLLMENT AHEAD OF BUILDING

High school enrollment here is ahead of building construction, according to Carl" Wilde, School Board vice president. “Increased cost in building materials already has made il necessary to curtail some of the original pbuilding plans for high school projects,” Mr. Wilde said last hight at School 31, 307 Lincoln St. He referred to the proposed Irvington High School.
