REACTION SENDS CHICAGO GRAINS ONE GENT DOWN

——a Liverpool Gables Prove Disappointing; Corn Profits Taken.

By United Press

CHICAGO, April 8.—Reactionary tendencies developed in grain on the Chicago Board of Trade today after strength displayed on the opening, After the first hour wheat was 13s cents lower, corn was 1% to 1% cents lower, and oats were 7% to 1 cent, lower. Long liquidation developed when the response to strong Liverpool cables failed to develop as expected and the opening trend to higher levels quickly |turned. Selling was rather general and there were few takers. Wheat receipts were 18 cars. Local selling in corn on the initial bulge in prices was followed by profit-taking | through scattered commission houses. These offerings unsettled the market and prices dropped sharply from early highs. Corn receipts |were 27 cars. HOGS DECLINE 15 CENTS AT LOCAL YARDS

Packing Sows Are Steady at $9 to $9.50; Vealers Face Pressure.

By: Bureau of Agricultural Economics, U. 8S. Department of Agriculture Hog prices yielded ground today to another liberal run. The general 15-cent decline put prices on practically all weights of barrows and gilts back to the levels pravailing at the close of last week. Today's topat $1005 was. 25 cents below Wednesday's peak. Shipping orders were very light early, expanding later when the de-

Sows remained steady, bulk $9 to $9.50, top $9.60. Hog: receipts were estimated at 9000, the heaviest of the week. "The cattle supply consisted almost entirely of slaughter she-stock. Odds and ends of steers moved about steady with Wednesday's lower close, or 25 to 50 cents below a week ago. Up tp $12 was paid for some good steers, other sales ranging downward to $9. Other killing classes were steady, heifers turning at $8 to $9.50 A range of $5.25 to $6.50 included most sales of common and medium quality beef cows, with cutter grades at $4 to $5. Good cows ranged between $6.75 and $7.75 and a few choice grade reached $8.50. Top on. sausage bulls was $6.50. Vealers were under early pressure in [the face of liberal supplies, but sufficient competition on shipper account developed .later to hold prices steady, upturns at nearby centers contributing the chief support. Good and choice vealers sold from $10 to $10.50, with medium from $8 to $9. Heavy calves were likewise unchanged at $9 downward. Increased supplies - locally and lowered values at Chicago conspired to reduce wooled lamb prices 50 cents, with clippers off 10 cents. Wooled Western offerings ranged from $11.50 to $12.00, with the best freshly shorn lambs $10.25. Other sales included a double deck of fall clipped 90-pound averages at $10.75. Best yearlings brought $9.50, with others at $8. Slaughter ewes were unchanged at’ $5.50 downward.
