CHURCH BUDGET GROUP STUDIES FIVE-YEAR PLAN
Proposal Would Raise Disciples of Christ Income to $500,000 Yearly.
| The commission on budgets and promotion of the Disciples of Christ Church was to decide today on a
five-year plan which would increase the annual income for church activities $500,000 by the end of the’ fifth Fedr. The program was recommended by thé Unified Promotion, Inc., board of review, composed of 150 persons representing every division of tlie church. The income increase would be gradual, with $100,000 proposed for the first year, $200,000 the second, and $100,000 additional until $500, 000 is reachec. The budget commission also has before it a proposal for a special campaign to raise $1,000,000, within five years, if deemed advisable. - Meeting in the Severin Hotel, the board of review decided that the income be distributed among six [national and 34 state organizations. ~ National organizations to benefit include the United Christian Missionary Society, the Pension Fund, the Board of Church Extension, the National City Christian Church of Washington, the international convention, and the Board of Christian Unity. Six colleges also are to he beneficiaries. The Rev. William A. Shullenberger, Central Christian Church pastor, is head of the budget commission. ‘Staff workers of the United Christian Missionary Society continued sessions today at the society’s headquarters in Irvington.
PEAT TO GIVE LAST TALK ON ETCHINGS
Wilbur D. Peat, John Herron Art Museum director, will lecture tonight in the museum on Rem--prandt’s etchings and drawings. This will be the last talk to be given in connection with the $2, 000,000 Dutch masterpiece exhibition at the museum. ? . The talk will be illustrated by slides “and original prints. The prints .form an important. part of the exhibition and were ‘loaned by Lessing J. Rosenwald, Philadelphia.
APPEAL IS FILED IN
STONING DEATH CASE
Harry D. Peats, one of three men convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the stoning to death in March, 1935, of John M. Penney, Kroger Grocery & Baking Co. driver, today filed an appeal in Supreme Court. The assignment of errors from Criminal Court asks for a review of the case. Others convicted in the killing were Victor Crickmore and Gerald Hayvzood. Emmett Williams was acquitted.
GROCERS AGREE ON
CLOSING SCHEDULE
Indianapolis retail grocers last night started a movement that may lead to closing stores Wednesday afternoons and Sundays through May, June, July and August; effective May 5. At a meeting in the Hotel Washington, representatives of the A. & P., Kroger and Standard firms, together with many independent grocers agreed to the closing, Edward Dirks, 5524 E. Washington St., chairman, said.
400 FOWLS STOLEN
IN FOUR FARM RAIDS!
By United Press NOBLESVILLE, Ind. April 8.— Looting of chicken houses on four Hamilton County farms today had netted thieves approximately 400 chickens, the largest single raid made by a band of farm thieves who have been operating in the county for about a year. Corn, hogs, calves, wheat and many other farm articles have been reported stolen from county farms during the last year.

Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 have been set as tentative dates for the first schoolboy traffic officers’ training camp, Williaim A. Evans Indianapolis Safety Education Council, an-
nounced today. The camp, sponsored by the council and the Indianapolis Council "of Parents and Teachers, is to include a four-day period of training in safety practices, life saving, first aid and supervised recreation. Boys, Mr. Evans said, are to be prepared for the next school year’s safety patrols. A staff of physical education teachers and athletic instructors are to be in charge of the camp. Each City school may send two boys. Parent-Teacher and other school groups are financing the project. 7
