U. S., DOMESTIC BONDS DECLINE INN. Y. TRADING
Treasury Funds Lose and New York Central 6s Fall to 120.
By United Press NEW YORK, April 7—U. S. Government bonds weakened.today and domestic corporation funds also declined. : Treasury funds lost as much as 28-32 point in the 31s of 1949-52. New York Central ‘6s of 1944 dropped 3 points to 120 and I..R. T. 5s of 1966 touched a new low at 84, off 3. Republic 4'2s of 1950 lost 5 points to 190.
Cotton Futures Lose About $1 a Bale
NEW YORK, April 7.—Cotton futures were nervous at losses of about $1 a bale today after an earlier slump had brought losses of as much as $1.50 a bale. Trading was fairly active. Around noon the list was 17 to 20 points lower, most positions up 5 to 10 points from the lows. The opening break of 15 to 30 points, which was extended slightly after the call, reflected rumors abroad: that President Roosevelt might act to lower commodity prices here, bearish crop ideas from Brazil and renewed fears of labor difficulties in the textile industry. Heavy stop-loss selling developed. Foreign markets were weak. /Speculative liquidation developed. Trade support increased on the scale down and some new demand came from commission houses arid Wall Street.
Curb Breaks Sharply; Mining Shares Off
NEW YORK, April 7. — Curb stocks broke sharply today under lead of mining shares. Bunker Hill & Sullivan dropped nearly 9 points to 125, while New Jersey Zinc fell 212 to 85'z and Consolidated Mining & Smelting lost 215 to 851%. : General Tire & . Rubber at 35, Dominion Steel & Coal “B” at 244, Aluminum Company of America at 165 and ‘Brown Company Preferred at 75 were more than a point lower. Oils eased and utilities were mixed.
Rumors Bring Break in
Major Commodities NEW YORK, April 7.—Rumors the Administration would attempt to lower commodity prices through a change in its gold-buying policy, although cfficially denied, brought a severe reaction into all major commodities today. The break was the sharpest in months and embraced all staples with the exception of the domestic sugar futures, which had been depressed for more than a month on
possibility of a 2 -cent excise tax.
MONEY MARKET
NEW YORK, April 7.—New York City banks today increased rates for four, five and six-month time money bills to 112 per cent, or !4 point above the previous level. loans up to three months were unchanged at 114 per cent.
Bankers said the increase partly reflected a switching from demand
loans to time loans on possibility of an increase in cail money rates and the higher discount on Treasury bills. They said, however, that they did not anticipate an immediate firming of call rates as funds still’ were freely offered.

By Bureau of Agricultural Economics,
U. 8. Department of {Agriculture * It was another draggy session in the steer and yearling trade today. Numerous loads of good, choice and prime steers appeared, but consisted largely of light weights, bullocks scaling above 1200 pounds being very scarce.
Downturns at other leading points yesterday and Monday finally Had a weakening influence here, there being frequent declines of 25 cents shown as compared with the closa of last week.. A few of the upper crust were steady to weak. Prime 1087-pound steers topped at $14.75 and there was a spr inkling of sales between $12 and $13.35. Bulk of the crop moved at $9 to $11.50. Receipts were estimated at 1800 head, hut late indications pointed to a supply that might reach 2000.
Heifers were steady and trade continued fairly active. ‘A package of prime 1105-pound weights earned $12, the highest here in more than a year, Bulk turned to $8.50 to $9.50. Trade in cows turned soft, instances 25 cents lower. Bulls were steady. Hogs were offered liberally, but demand was equal to the supply and prices: maintained a steady front. The top sale of $10.30 on 2a load of outstanding 235-pound weights was 10 cents higher than Tuesday, but this was no criterion of the general market.
Top on the schedule held at $10.20
| on choice 225 to 250 pounders. Sows
at $9 to $9.50, with a $9.60 top, were steady. Receipts were “estimated at 8000 head. Lower live reports from nearby centers and a reported slow movement of liberal fresh supplies at Eastern points failed to adversely affect vealer prices locally. Quality of the run was good and buyers paid steady prices throughout, or $10 ‘to $10.50 for good to. choice vealers and mostly $8 to $9 for mediums. Heavy calves moved at $9 downward. Not enough sheep or lambs {urned up to establish a trade, but values were considered nominally ‘unchanged. ‘Best wooled lamh=z ara quotable upward to $1250. nd choice clipped offerings to . "35. Slaughter ewes are consideir.. sale able from $5.50 downward.
