CORN FUTURES START UPWARD AFTER SETBACK

Renewed Buying Boosts Prices to Near Early High Marks.

By United Press CHICAGO, April 5.—Corn prices reacted from early highs today, but renewed buying sent the crop up almost to the opening levels on the Chicago Board of Trade. At the end of the first hour, wheat was 78 to 1 cent higher, corn was 13 to 3% cents higher, and oats were 7% to 1% cents higher. ‘Heavy buying of July corn, by a large commission house, carried all futures upward after the setback. The trend was to higher levels as the market showed increasing strength. The buying today was initiated by a growing acknowledgment of the scarcity of corn on farms available for shipment. Corn receipts were 33 cars. Wheat prices were lower on profittaking, but the price strong at levels above the previous close. Buying was general, but not of heavy volume. Wheat receipts were 44 cars. i

SMALL SUPPLY BOOSTS PRICES IN HOG MARKET

Weights Above 160 Pounds Gain 15 Cents; Lighter Kinds 10 Cents.

(By Bureau of Agricultural Economics, T.

S. Department of Agriculture) Following a drop to the lowest level since early in December, prices for hogs reacted upward today on the strength of sharply curtailed receipts around the market circle. Supplies locally were moderately heavy, being estimated at 7000, with late indications pointing to an even larger supply. Prices on weights above 160 pounds advanced 15 cents over Saturday and light lights and pigs were 10 cents up. Top reached $10.20. Sows were generally steady, bulk, $9 to $9.50, top, $9.60. Prices for all killing classes in the cattle market were generally steady, although trading moved slowly and there was a touch of weakness apparent on cows. + Quality was of usual Monday calibre and most steers here sold at $9 to $11. Good mediumweights topped at $12.25 and odd head were upward to $15.

Heifers bulked at $8 to $9.50. Come mon and medium beef cows sold at $5.50 to. $6.50, with cutters and low cutters $4.25 to $5.25. Good cows brought $6.75 to $7.50, with a few choice upward to $8.75. Practical top fpr sausage bulls rested at $6.50. A 50-cent loss in vealer prices was laid chiefly at the door of the Eastern dressed trade where values were considered out of relation with live pric Consequently, shippers were equipped with only limited orders of a lower nature and trading ruled slow at the decline. Upward to $10.50 was paid for choice vealers, but the supply was mostly kinds selling from $10 down, with medium grades from $8 to $9. Heavy calves showed little change within a spread

2 lf $6.50 to $9.
