FEDERAL BONDS RALLY, RECEIVE ACTIVE SUPPORT
Low-Coupon Treasury
Funds in Demand; Domestics Are W Weaker.
By United Press . NEW YORK, April 2—U. S. Government bonds rallied under active support today and recovered as much as 14-32 from the lows: in early trading. Low-coupon Treasury funds were in demand. The 23: of 1951-54 rose to 98 18-32 up 2-32, and the 2%s of 1949-53 were well supported at 96 17-32 up 11-32 from the low for a net loss of 7-32 point. Home Owners Loan 3s of 1952 were firm at 100. Domestic corporate bonds weak« ened. Republic Steel Convertible 4% s of 1950 and Youngstown Shtet & Tube convertible 3%s of 1951 eased. Losses in New York Central issues and Pennsylvania 3's of 1952, when issued, featured a decline in highgrade rails. Central R. R. of New Jersey 5s of 1987 and Illinois Central 5s of 1955 led the speculative group lower, Weakness in German and South American funds marked foreign } trading. .

Brown Co. preferred rose. 3 points to 66 while Aluminum, Ltd., dipped 1% to 128% and Aluminum Co. of America declined almost a point to 16734. National’ Rubber Machinery and New Jersey Zinc firmed but Fisk Rubber, Wayne Pump and Eagle Picher were easier. Hecla Mining dipped 1 to 20, Con-

were ecrased and May futures | climbed fractionally. | At the end of the first hour wheat was unchanged to 5 cent higher. Corn was 7% to 1% cents higher, and oats were 1% to 1:cent higher. Hog trading today was generally steady at yesterday's close at the Indianapolis. Union Stockyards. Top price of $10.15 was paid for 225 to 250 pounders. Receipts were 6000 with 152 holdovers. Packing sows ranged from $9 to $9.50, practical top $9.60. Weights fete 160 to 180 pounds sold for $10; 200 to 210 pounds were $10.05; 210 to 225 pounds, $10.10; 225 to 250 pounds, $10.15, and weights of 250 to 275 pounds were $10.10. Weights of 275 to 300 pounds sold for $10.05; 300 to 325 pounders brought $10; 325 to 350 pounds, $9.95, and weights of 350 to 400 pounds, $9.90. .
Cattle Active, Steady
In the lighter divisions. 155 to 160-pound weights brought - $9.65: 150 to 155 pounders were $9.40; 140 to. 150 pounds, $9. 15; 130 to 140 pounds, $8.90; 120 to 130 pounds, $8.65; 110 to 120 pounds, $8.40 and the 100 to 110-bPound class was $8.15. Slaughter classes in the cattle market were mostly steady on a run of 600 cattle and 600 calves. Steers ranged from $10.50 to $11. Heifers sold up to $9.75. Common to medi= um beef cows brought $5.75 to $6.75, the cutter grades, $4.50 to $5.50. 20 Per Cent Acreage Boost Brings Heavy Selling.
By United Press NEW YORK, April 2--Southern advices indicating a 20 per cent cotton acreage increase this season and rumors that the British government may tax profits on cotton futures and that loan stock releases may continue this month brought heavy selling into cotton: futures today Around midsession the list was $1.50 a bale net lower. A sharp break in stocks and weakness in most other commodities also were factors. The Liverpool market dropped on possibility that cotton futures may be taxed in the new budget. Alexandria also broke. Prices fell 13 to 21 points at the opening and then held fairly steady around the initial levels until just Trading which had quieted after an: active opening, again turned activé on the break.
