A stirring if fictional story behind England's defeat the mighty Spanish Armada, brilliantly seven sagacious players, is on view at Loew's this week under the title, “Fire Over England.” It is one of the best of the many English films which have shown to local theater-goers in the past few months. Released by the prolific Alexander Korda, “Fire Over England” was produced bv Erich Pommer with direction by Hollywood's William K. Howard. who also direct many Fox films, M-G-M's n and Paramount's Pugitive England” of the

thought as armies For such a character study “Fire Over kngland,” there is prisingly interesting action, and for good measure the conventional love story threads the scenes which otherwise would be disconnected historical (or fictional) fragments, each interesting in itself but without adhesion to the whole. The of daring behind the Armada’s defeat is told in actions of voung Michael, superbly played by Lawrence Olivier. Michael's hatred of Spain is fired by his father's ath in the Inquisition, and his mission as Elizabeth's spy to King Philip's court, compl leted successfully at great risk of life, helped make possible the crushing blow delivered Spain's rising power by the Armada’s destruction. And Michael very obviously is intended to represent all the loyalty and patriotism of England to its Queen.
