The senior American Cardinal, in one of his rareyinterviews, said the “have to be watched all the time.” He expressed satisfaction with the defeat of the Child Labor Amendment ratification in New York State. “We find youth as spiritual minded as ever,” he said. “We know that because we are in touch with them. They are just as loyal to their faith as their parents ever were. “They are a little less tolerant of guidance, more reluctant to accept even the kindest guidance, but we don't find these things in the Catholic children. The danger today is in the increased and continued use of the movies and the radio. “The children today are compelled to listen over the radio to rotten ballads that are sickening. The sentiment not of love but of crazy, foolish, maudlin sentiment of lowdown sexual passion. “It breaks down the self-control, and it has an influence to wreck the virile characters of boys. Turn on your radio at any hour of the day or night, and you have to listen to the songs of queer people. It is not healthy atmosphere.”

Jesus Prays for Disciples

Uniform Lesson for March By W. E. GILROY, Editor of Advance HIS lesson on Jesus praying for His disciples recalls the words Jesus to Peter at the Last Supper, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; but I have prayed for thee, that thy [faith fail not.”
International
of
Essentially, this was the praver of Jesus for His disciples, that their faith should not fail. and that the) should be equal to the hurdens and responsibilties taat they had accepted in becoming His disciples. The love of Jesus for His disciples and His deep concern for them was, if anvthing. intensified by His reali- | zation that some would leave them. He knew they would miss His sup- | porting presence, and the inspiration of His own example of faith and courage.
Consequently He assured them that He would send them the Com- | forter, the Holy Spirit, whose presence would sustain them and who would bring to them all that His own early living presence had meant. n
” 2
N the presence of some, at least, who remembered and recorded | His words, He prayed to the Father for the disciples, whom He was leaving. He realized that they would be in a hostile world where men | would hate them. Yet His prayer was not that they would be taken from the world, but that in this world of evil, they should be kept | irom evil. His earnest yearning was that they should be sanctified in the truth. Jesus was sending them into the | world in the same spirit and with | (the same purpose that the Father | {had sent the Son into the world. | Supremely He had devoted Himself

to them, and it was His earnest
might be theirs.
Nor was He praying for only the immediate circle of disciples. He perceived that there would be the disciples of days to come, men and | women who would see the truth, and accept it as it was proclaimed | by those whom He was sending | forth. n
” td
prayer was that they might be strengthened in the unity of love. His one great purpose was that the | love that thé Father had for the world might become the love domi- | nating every relationship among the disciples themselves. What a aap and yonterhil con-
| OR these disciples the earnest |
ception we have of the nature of
i discipleship and of what the fellow- | ship ef disciples in the church might
be if churches everywhere were marked by this unity of spirit and purpose, and if they fulfilled in every respect, the reality of the Master's prayer! What strength and inspiration it should give to us individuaily to know that Jesus prays for each of us as He prayed for Peter, and that we have an eternal intercessor who would put all the forces of God behind us to keep us strong, and true, and faithful!
