PAIR ESCAPES POLICE AFTER ROBBERY HERE

Two masked and armed bandits | eluded police early today after holding up Newton Williams, 75, | filling station attendant, and rob-! bing him of $12 in cash. Police tracked the bandits in the | snow but lost the trail when they | drove away in a car. The holdup | occurred at 1701 W. Michigan St. | Mr. Williams told police the bandits pushed him into a back room and turned off the lights before rob- | bing him. A thief who tried to flee with a carton of butter stolen from a gro-| cery at 1601 Cornell St. ran so fast he lost his hat, police told. Charles W. Solomon, manager, | said he caught the thief after seeing him take the butter. After a Mr. Soloman said he recovered the butter but the thief ran so fast his hat blew off. He didn't stop to pick it up James Kenworthy, 22, of 430 N. Meridian St., reported to police that a woman jumped his car and robbed him of $69 in cash.
