By RALPH NORMAN Today's major radio news emanates from both coasts, and concerns possible formation of a new national network and inauguration of a new NBC series featuring prominent actors and authors and talks by the nation’s leading ministers of all faiths. Plans for a fourth coast-io-coast chain are said to be nearing completion in New York, although definite announcement has not been made. It is understood several leading financial and radio men are behind the project. Only Mutual so far has successfully competed with NBC and CBS, although several attempts to form competing chains may be recalled. Ed Wynn is said to have lost much of his personal fortune in his unsuccessful Amalgamated Network, and Samuel Insull failed in two attempts to organize national hookups. Al Smith and Vincent Astor organized some 20 stations about three years ago before they abandoned their enterprise, and you may recall the suicide of George McClelland, one-time NBC vice presi= dent, who took his life when a projected network flopped. With CBS, NBC and Mutual firm5 : ly entrenched in the radio field and { BE HS Bd with most stations of consequence under conrtact to one of them, it would seem a competing company must expect hard going. = n ” The National Conference of Jews and Christians is co-operat-ing with an advertising agency and NBC in arranging the unusual series to star members of the

Because she resembles Ann Harding, autograph seekers hound Bess Johnson, mistaking her for the more famous actress. Miss Johnson has plenty of claim to fame herself, though, for she plays a lead~ ing role in NBC-WIRE's serial, “Today’s Children,” which is heard at 9:45 a. m. Monday through Friday, and in spare moments is an executive in a Chicago advertising agency. Miss Johnson was born in West Virginia, an entered radio five years ago after two seasons on the
