The property managers, con-| trolling approximately 50,000 of the | 80,000 rental units in the city, said the raise will not be on a fixed per- | centage, but each property will be considered individually. It was made plain that an increase on all 50,000 properties is not | to be made. The committee issuing the state- | ment includes R. A. Franke, E. A. Teckemeyer and R. A. Hartman. It! follows: | “The Property Management Di-| vision of the Real Estate Board is | an organization which ‘was orig-| inally formed to attempt the elim-| ination of abuses and waste in the | management and ownership of real | estate. It also accomplished much in the establishment of fair practices and in the formulation of plans looking to a more equitable handling of the tenants as well as the landlords’ problems and interests “Today, as in the past two years, certain uncontrollable factors are at | work which will inevitably lead to increases in the cost of housing. | This movement, out of control, might easily lead to excessive increases and other unwarranted results. “No organization can control the economic factors, such as (1) rising material costs, (2) Government competition in housing, (3) new and increased taxes and (4) other factors less prominent, but no less effective, which will eventually bring rising housing costs to our community. “However, the members of the P. M. D. do feel that this situation is their maior problem today; that it is their duty to analyze the situation to see that all concerned are dealt with equitably, and that so far as it is within their control, excesses are not permitted.
