During a previous visit about two vears ago, he worked on the story of Maria Antoinette for M-G-M and Norma Shearer. Adapting this pungent, anti-war piece so that the European market wouldn't ban it would be quite a task. The job will be attempted. though, and may come out all right. Disliked Fashion Writing
On the staff of Vanity Fair, Mr, Sherwood writhed in the drudgery of getting out a fashion article for men. He didn’t believe anvbody read the articles anyway, so he proceeded to find out by writing that button shoes and peg-top trousers were coming back, that stocking caps were replacing opera hats, and that crimson-embroidered frogs would hold dinner jackets together. Before he could be discharged for that prank. Mr. Sherwood resigned, along with Robert Benchley, in protest. against the firing of Dorothy Parker, who had been Vanity Fair's drama critic, Next he tried being a newspaper reporter in Boston, but was let out after three days. Then he worked for Life and became its editor before he was fired in 1926. Since then, he has mostly worked for himself, writing plays. But he is so critical of his own work that he several times has thought of discharging himselt,

Actress Denies Charge of Hotel

Feb. 26.—-Dorothy Sebastian, film actress, at liberty under bond on charges of skipping a San Diego hotel bill, indignantly insisted today the promoter of a Red Cross benefit “let us down.” The hotel bill was incurred when Miss Sebastian and other members of a stage company came to San Diego to stage & Red Cross benefit that later was cancelled. “I naturally expected bill would be paid by | moters,” she explained.

Manuel Del Campo, goodbye less than an hour after their marriage last week at Yuma, Ariz, abandoned plans to join him in Mexico City. where he went to settle the estate of his father. Miss Astor had intended goihg to Mexico but a studio order to report for work forced cancellation of plans. She said the order probably meant that she and Del Campo would not see each other until he returns here. His father died the night before the Yuma marriage.
