Ravmond St.—is scheduled to go on the operating table for an official “dissecting” Monday night. The City Council is scheduled to take final sction then on an ordinance introduced at its last meeting which would create two new wards, raising the number from 22 to 24. Walter C. Boetcher, city controller and Marion County Democratic chairman, drafted the measure.! An act was passed by the State! Legislature recently empowering the City to increase the number of wards. Mr. Boetcher said the present setup is too unweildly and hard to supervise, There are too many precincts in the First and 19th Wards, he said. Under the provisions of the proposed ordinance, the 19th is to extend from 38th St. to Vermonj St. From Vermont St. to Raymond St. would be known as the 24th Ward.
Precincts to Be Cut
The 19th Ward would be reduced from 21 to 12 precincts. The 24th wotild consist of nine precincts. Bel- | mont Ave. is to be the east boundarv of the two districts and the | Citv Limits the west The First Ward, which now coyers the entire northeast section of the Citv, is to be divided into the First and 23d Wards if the Council acts favorably. | Fast of Temple Ave. and George Washington Park is to constitute ihe First Ward, while the 23d Ward i= to be west of that line. Massachusetts Ave. and 38th St. are to be the north and south boundaries of the two districts. {
Other Council Proposals The 17 First Ward precincts | would be divided into seven for the | new First Ward and 10 for the new | 23d Ward. Another proposed ordinance which may receive second reading Monday would extend the time limit for restaurant dancing from 1 a. m. to 2 a. m. A measure to make Emerson Ave, a preferentnial street from New York St. to English Ave, also is to be considered. Other ordinances on the Council's calendar include a petition to permit a new taxicab company to operate and requests for two new loading zones.
