YOUTH PROBLEM STUDY COUNCIL
Supwrintendent Says No Specific Delinquency Cure Exists.
Organization of a “Council of Youth” as a central co-operative body to study the problems of youth was suggested today by School Superintendent Paul C. Stetson. He spoke before the Indianapolis Council of Social Agencies in the YMC. A Such a group, Mr. Stetson said, would not interfere with activities of the group studying juvenile delinquency. He offered the service of the public schools “There is no specific remedy for this disease of the social body called delinquency of youth,” Mr. Stetson sald “About, the only universal judgment we have formed in the matter of character development is that it begins and ends in the home, and that the home is not only the most, important economic and educational center, but it is important moral center as well.”
Supervised Play Suggested
Mr. Stetson pointed out that youth problems should be the concern of all groups and that instead of attacking on one front. education, ot haphazardly on other fronts, a simultaneous attack should be made on all fronts Mr. Stetson said an important combating juvenile delinquency would be to open school buildings #ve or six nights a week from October to May, and offer supervised playgrounds during fair weather He added. however, there is no money available for this purpose No more worthwhile investment of public funds can be made than
