By United Press MADRID, Jan. 22—Taking advantage of bright moonlight 13 Rebel airplanes raided Madrid four times early today, dropping more than 70° high explosive bombs in the eastern and southeastern sections. As daylight came, bright and sunny, ambulances collected the dead and injured. It was impossible to count the dead and wounded accurately, because fear of further air raids hampered rescue work. Wreckage was spread over a wide area from the Salamanca district, adjoining the neutral sector in >» Which the foreign embassies are lo‘cated, down through the Retiro Park area to the Madrid-Caceres-Portugal railway station. It had been a quiet day on the Madrid front, with the exception of the stubborn fight south of the city for final possession of the Cerro de Los Angeles, the strategic hill marking Spain's geographical center eight miles from town. It was learned Loyalist planes dropped approximately 200 bombs on Rebel concentrations around the Getafe Airdrome south of the city this morning. During the night Loyalist planes +. also dropped scores of bombs on Rebel concentrations of cavalry. Explosions were heard from the Castellana district last night, apparently from Loyalist bombings northwest of the. city.
