Tea Parties To Be Given

Preparations Begun for Local Festivities On March 12.

Indianapolis Girl Scouts and Brownies are to participate in a national birthday celebration on March 12, Miss Ruth Pease, local Girl Scout director, announced today.

niversary of the organization's founding by Juliette Low, is to be celebrated by group teas and dinners throughout the country. Plans are being made by the local organization to entertain members and their parents with dinner parties in Indianapolis churches and schools. More than 5000 persons are expected to attend. A program is to be broadcast on a national radio hookup from New York during the dinner, Arrangements are being made to have a five-minute local station announcement to tie in with the celebration. Contributions to the Juliette Low Memorial Fund, which promotes international scouting are to be made at these dinner celebrations. Mrs. Horace McClure, Girl Scout Council representative, is arrangements chairman. Assisting her are Mesdames Fritz Schaefer, Frank Diss, Karl Kistner, Esther Garen, Maxwell Droke and Mrs. Montgom=ery S. Lewis, commissioner. An extensive service program is to be undertaken by local Scout groups for this anniversary year. It includes a study of nature conservation, bird feeding and City and State parks. Scout leaders are engaged in designing window posters which are to be placed in the Girl Scouts’ homes. They are to read “A Girl Scout Lives Here.”

Club Holds Card Party For Women

The Meridian Hills Country Club held a luncheon and bridge party today as an entertainment for women members. One group rode from the stables before luncheon and the bridge play. It included Mesdame§ Charles W. Moores, James Gillespie, E. R. Hair, William Bennett and M. H. Fuller. : Mrs. Ernest Rupel, a committee member, was at a table with Mesdames ‘Ralph Drybrough, Louis D. Belden and James Marlowe. Another table was formed by Mesdames Lawrence B. Sheridan, Joseph Merriam and Richard Habbe. With Mrs. Harry R. Kerr were Mesdames Arthur Overbay, Walter Kemper and William E. Gates. Reservations also were made by Mesdames J. H. Waldo. P. R. Summers, Ralph L. Flood, Roy Slaughter and Rex Hayes.

Mr. Hanley is the winter sports committee chairman. With Mr. Carter, Charles L. Smith, Dr. Stark and L. S. Graham he is arranging the party to stimulate more interest in the sport.
