crew of Washington basketball play-

Of course, you know Washington grabbed the title from Shortridge’s hands, 24-22, in the last seven seconds of play. Hardin snatched Fred Fobes’ missed foul throw from the Short-

floor, and scored the deciding goal. Had Fobes made good on his foul toss, this story might be different. It was a movie-thriller ending, all right. There aren’t many city title basketball games that end in that fashion.

While the 4000 fans in Tech gym were boosting their heart beat in that last minute some of them were doing unusual things. Coach Kenneth Peterman, on the Shortridge bench, was tearing up bits of paper furiously. Once we thought he was going to stuff them into his mouth. But who wouldn't when his team is slipping off a city title in the last seven seconds? One girl came to the game with opera glasses. In the excitement she placed them to her eyes: the wrong way. Let’s see—that would make (little ones out of big ones, wouldn’t it. Another smartly clad girl ruined an expensive looking hat. She crushed it completely, then started to tear it. If she was a Washington student, no doubt her mother forgave her.

It’s an advantage to have red hair when youre a good basketball player. We're thinking of Marion Red Carter, handsome Washington forward. “Come on Red,” seemed to be the popular cry among Washington fans. Any how Red did come through! Carter stole the ball time and again from Shortridge players. He was the leader in individual scoring, with five field goals and two foul tosses for a total of 12 points. Fobes was high individual scorer for Shortridge, with three field goals and a foul throw for seven points.

Foul line tosses were a deciding feature in the game. Although each scored eight field goals, Washington was more accurate at the foul
