TWO CITY BILLS “TO BE OFFERED IN LEGISLATURE

Measures on Gas Utility Fee and Debt Certificates Are Ready.

Marion County delegations in the Legislature today prepared to introduce two City Administrationsponsored bills. A bill to allow payment of approximately $50,000 to the City by the municipal-owned Citizen's Gas _& Coke Utility in lieu of taxes is the first measure on the schedule. Utility officials have earmarked funds for payment when authorized by statute, according to City Controller Walter C. Boetcher, in charge

of Administration measures. The measure, an amendment,

would allow payment provided rates are sufficient to maintain efficient

service and pay indebtedness, Mr. Boetcher said.

Municipal utilities are exempt from city taxes, but pay State and County taxes under the present statute. While the bill is directed at the Citizens Utility, it would af-

Boetcher said. Looks to Future

While few certificates have been issued during the last few years, he pointed out, any future extensive public improvement program might have to be curtailed under the ex- | isting statute.
