BUTLER OFFERS

101 COURSES IN NIGHT DIVISION

University Drafting. Plans i

For New Semester, Starting Feb. 1.

Announcement of the 101 courses which are to be available in the Butler University evening division next semester 'has been made by Prof. George F. Leonard, director. The term opens Jan. 30. Heading the list are 33 courses in the general field of education. Of interest to public school teachers, the courses will apply toward state licenses and collegiate degrees. This work will be taught by Butler College of Education instructors. Eighteen courses in economics and business administration also are to be offered. Supplemented by lecturers from various Indianapolis business and professional houses, the university faculty is to teach such eourses as accounting, insurance, commercial subjects and finance. Nine Botany Courses

Nine courses are to be available in botany, six in the general field of English literature and five in sociology. Three courses each are to be available in departments of German, history, home economics, romance languages and zoology. Two courses in speech, library science, physics and religion are to be offered. A complete curriculum of freshmen subjects has been scheduled for beginning students. This includes work in English, the languages, a science and certain electives. The mathematic department has scheduled four classes and single offerings are to be available in journalism and philosophy. The student advisory period for the second semester has opened at Butler. The new term starts Feb. 1. Several hundred students have begun registrations.

New Plan Started

Under a new plan recently placed in operation, all undergraduates are required to consult faculty advisers, get their proposed course of study approved and be assigned to classes before the regular registration date. Zr. Earl R. Beckner heads the student advisory committee. Other members are Dr. Albert Mock, Mrs. Maria W. Hyde, Prof. B. L. Kershner, Dean E. Walker, Prof. A. D. Beeler, Prof. G. F. Leonard and Mrs. Martha B. Enyart. Butler is to open its 1937 debate schedule on Jan. 19 against Franklin College, according to Prof. Charles H. Walters, coach. Members of the squad are to be Valentine Williams and William Stalcup, affirmative, and Joseph Calderon and Frederick Striby, negative. The debate to be held at Franklin is to be on “Resolved, That an Extension of Consumers’ Co-operatives Would Contribute to Public Welfare.”

REA CONTRACTS FOR STATE POWER LINES

Times $pecial WASHINGTON, Jan. 12.—Signing of a contract for 410 miles of rural power lines in Indiana was announced today by the Rural Electrification Administration. The award was made to Andrews Asphalt Paving Co. Hamilton O.,, by the Henry County Rural Electric Membership Corp.,, Newcastle. Based on unit assemblies, the contract will total $366,770.25 for the extension of lines through parts of Henry, Delaware, Fayette, Wayne, Hancock, Madison, Randolph and Rush Counties.

Addison J. Parry today began a new term as Washington Township Republican Club president.
