URGES NAMING YOUNG JUDGES

Federal Judiciary Unindorsed By Bar Association Is Advocated.

By Scripps-Howard Newspaper Alliance WASHINGTON, Jan. 8.— Appointment of young lawyers, not over 45 at the most and not indorsed by the American Bar Association, in order to make the Federal judiciary progressive and responsible to democratic ideas, was | advocated here today by Irving] Brant, St. Louis editorial writer and | constitutional afithority. Mr. Brant, whose book “Storm . Over the Constitution” several months ago advocated the general course followed by President Roosevelt’s message Monday on economic and social legislation, is here to attend a People’s Lobby Conference on means of accomplishing such reforms within the Constitution. Its session Saturday will be broadcast nationally. Modernizing the Supreme Court's

ideas by selection of new judges can |*

be accomplished and such legislation thus safeguarded, Mr. Brant said in an interview, through election of another progressive President in 1940. “The only three progressive Presidents since the Civil War, Wilson and the two Roosevelts, were succeeded by conservatives,” he said. “The result of this was to prevent them from appointing a Court majority—particularly since there was a tendency for conservative judges -1o hang on until these three Presidents went out. “In the 13 years since 1923 only four new Justices have been named. In the next eight years there is certain to be more than a majority of replacements? “In the 13 years starting in 1910, 13 Justices—an average of one a year—were appointed. “The solution is to disregard American Bar Association, recommendations and name young judges.” ? | |

Bayer Aspirin Tablets with a Glass of Water

The modern way to ease a cold is this: Two Bayer Aspirin tablets the moment you feel a cold coming on. Then repeat, if necessary, according to instructions in the box. At the same time, if you have a sore throat, crush and dissolve three BAYER tablets in one-third glass of water. And gargle with this mixture twice. The Bayer Aspirin you take internally will act to combat fever

Try this way. Your doctor, we know, will endorse it. For it is a quick, effective means of combating a cold. Ask for Bayer Aspirin by the full name at your druggist’s — not for “aspirin” alone.
