home, unable to speak, ha: ily recognizing members of his fan ly. ” ”n ” INCE, he has improved slo ly, but has been unable to mi ive his legs. Last Saturday he was dmitted to Riley Hospital, where | Ir. and. Mrs. Herschel Shockley, | ais parents, have ‘wanted him to’ be since physicians at home sh ok their heads and said he probz ily never would walk again. Bob Shockley—eating gingerbr: ad with one hand that used to be paralyzed and the other gripping his bedside~ought to walk tom rrow if his point of view has a: ything to do with it. HE “I was hit by an auto,” he sg d.

“But the man says he’s sorry. I want to go to school next year.” He lifted a spoon-load of p:as to his mouth and they disappear d. “I want to play with my wag: n, too. I like to play indoors. Wi ill you come and see my wagon soi ie time? It’s got rubber tires. I wat to get well, so I can go back a d pull the wagon. My brother, Ral: 1, pulls me now.” » ” ”

HE words tumbled out of h n end on end. There was 'n artesian quality about them as |e lay there and talked. And then it was turned off as he took a portitn of mashed potatoes, which [ee claimed he liked better than ay other food. “And I want to play ball like n'y brother, and most of -all I want ib» run. Do you know any other bos here? Guess how many there are? What's your name? Will you con 2 back and see me again?” And so Bob Shockley greeted hs first visitor since he came to RiltV

Hospital. A hold-over traffic victim from the 1935 toll, who thinks that by magic he will be running on his feet again when the doctors get through with him. : 8 » =» HE doctors aren't so certain. They now are awaiting X-ray negatives that are due in a day or two and will read into Bob’s future farther than he can guess. If they show a brain tumor, they said today, then Bob may in fact pull his wagon, play ball, run and go to school within a reasonably short time. But if X-ray negatives don’t show something that surgery can cure, then Bob will have long, long

months: of muscle treatment ahead and the ultimate future will be a question mark. He and the other little captive Tarzans there haven't been told that yet. They wouldn't believe it anyway.
