And Orchestra to Make Bows.
BY RALPH NORMAN Three new shows featuring popular dance bands, stars of stage and screen and a new 43-piece orchese tra are to be the networks’ New Year's gift to ‘listeners tonight. Al Kemp's orchestra, with Kay Thompson and her “Rhythm Singrs,” will inaugurate a CBS series over WFBM at 7:30 o'clock. This new offering replaces Andre Kostelanetz’ orchestra, and will be heard at 7:30 p. m. on Fridays throughout the winter. ‘ Rex Chandler will take over for Fred Waring on the NBC-Blue network at 8 o'clock, presenting novel arrangements of the modern dance music. Chandler's orchestra of 43 men consists of 18 strings! and full
sections of woodwinds, saxophones and brasses.
The often-heard radio [team of Al and ‘Lee Reiser are the pianists. A mixed chorus of seven voicés—
i four men and three women—is to
be featured weekly, and a newcomer
| to radio, Frank Baker; is to be
heard as tenor soloist. In all, 60 persons are to participate in each of the Friday evening broadcasts. ” ‘#2 2 - i Mr. Chandler and Al Pearce, whose program replaces the War- . ing CBS Tuesday evening broadcast, have one of the season's most difficult radio assignments, Both unknown to evening listeners, they replace one of the networks’ most admired showmenFred Waring. 3 The Pearce “gang” has been a CBS afternoon feature for some time, and will be heard lin the evening for the first time Tues. day. 2 ” ” The third premiere tonight will originate in Hollywood, and will feature two well-known stars eof Broadway musical comedies and the movies, Helen Broderick and Victor Moore. Neither has had a regular radio assignment before, although each has guest-starred on numerous prograrns. : : Buddy Rogers’ dance band will provide musical interludes between comedy sketches by Miss Broderick and Mr. Moore in what should be a first-rate program. The “Twin Stars” broadcast, as the Broderick-
Moore. show is'called, will be carried by WIRE tonight and by WLW beginning next week.
n s tJ
WIRE Announcer Ray Hunt, whose genial Texas drawl is familiar to the station's “Musical Clock” and “Farm and Home Hour” listeners, goes to WGN, Chicago, to handle a special daily program: Hunt came to WIRE four months ago from KTSA, San Antonio.

they love it and want it to be better— |,
and when the hour of trial comes they are in the forefront of its defenders. It all shows that faith, love, patriotism are things bigger than any individual.
