Her Story of Mosquito That Swallowed Mule Is Best Lie.
By United Press HICAGO, Dec. 30—A “diaye studded” medal for the best lie of 1936 went today to a Michigan farmer's wife, Mrs. Gale Barnhouse. Mrs. Barnhouse’s story of the mosquito that dined on livestock brought her first place in the 1936 Burlington Liars’ Club contest and the unofficial title of world’s best liar. The mosquito described by Mrs. Barnhouse started out young on chicks, advanced through roosters, turkeys, calves and cows. One day it tried to eat a “tough old mule named Maud.” Half way down the mosquitos gullet, Maud unleashed a terrific kick, broke the mosquito’s neck, and saved the town. That was the best of 5600 whoppers entered from all parts of the world, said O. C. Hulett, president. Mr. Hulett, Gilbert Karcher and L. J. Stang judged the contest. Mrs. Barnhouse drove her horse and buggy nine miles into Fowler ville, Mich., so she could telephone the judges to send the award out by mail, as she couldn't attend personally. Roman Links’ San Francisco fog won second place. The fog was so thick you couldn’t cut it with a knife, “It looked like an opportunity to me,” Links said, “so I sprayed it with black ink, hacked out theIk Sained fog and sold it for coal.”

BOARD STUDIES MOVING SCHOOL
Relocation No. 68 After Protest by Civic League.
of
After hearing complaints from an East Twenty-first Street Civic League delegation last night, the School Board today was considering plans for the relocation of School 68, 21st-st and Linwood-av. The league complained that the present portable building houses only the first four grades, lacks modern accommodations and was heated only by stoves. Robert R. Harritt, league president, and Alvin W. Stoneburner acted as spokesmen. Paul C. Stetson, schools superintendent, said: “Your complaint is justified. A new site is under consideration and a recommendation will be made to the board in the near future.” The board is considering moving the school to 21st-st and Riley-av, it was said. WPA will be asked to aid in construction of the building if the new site is chosen, A. B. Good, schools business director, said. The meeting was the last to be attended by Board Members Merle Sidener and Samuel E. Garrison, who retire Jan. 1. The former has served six and a half years and the latter five years. Earl Buchanan and John F. White are to succeed them, On the recommendation of Mr. Stetson, a night school was ordered established at Crispus Attucks High School provided the state Department of Education agrees to finance cost of instruction.

COURTROOM KILLING
By United Press
JACKSON, Ky., Dec. 30.—Officials of “bloody” Breathitt County, where duels and murder trials have been plentiful in years past, were to set a hearing date for Mrs. Viola Wickline, 35, mountain woman, charged with killing a youth accused of slaying her son. Mrs. Wickline terrorized a crowd in the county courtroom when she shot John Shepherd, 18, jpst before he was to be given a preliminary trial on charges of killing Harvey Gabbard, 17, her son by a former marriage. Noah Shepherd, 21, brother of John, dodged Mrs. Wickline's bullets. Three others are held as accessories with Mrs. Wickline. They are William Wickline, 42, her husband; Buck Gabbard, 32, cousin of Harvey, and Mrs. Mattie Haddix.
