AGED PERSONS GET INCREASE IN ASSISTANCE

Average Monthly Payments Nearly Doubled Seven Months.

Average monthly payments to the dependent aged in Indiana under the Federal-state social security set-up showed an from $7.94 in April to $13.77 in November, a report from the State Department of Public Welfare disclos:d toaay Only a slight increase in total number of recipients: was revealed. Cause for the increase was aftributed to the increasing liberality | of counties in making grants since the Federal government began contributing half of total old age assistance funds under the Social Security Act. The state pays approximately 30 per cent and the counties, 20 per cent Highest average shown for Lake County with $21.89 Other counties which have shown large increases in their share of the old age assistance costs include Daviess, $21.89, and La Porte, $20.18, A total of 33.650 aged persons received payments in November for October. All counties share of the total cost amounted to $92,212.83. The report also showed that 1203 blind persons received an average payment of $1807 in November. This was an increase of 27 cents over April. A total of 798 dependent children received aid in September as against 3627 in November, The average per month $11.09 per child
