‘Gentlemen’s ‘Agreement’ Is Said to Have, Been Reached Today,

Although there was no official announcement of results, it was learned that a ‘“‘gentlemen’s agreement” was reached on operation of

They represent the majority of the ship- * board employes, “who, with the licensed personnel — telegraphists, engineers, masters, mates and pilots —and longshoremen struck when they failed to reach agreements ~ with shipowners over revision of the 1934 contract awards. Virtually all that remained for a complete settlement, it was believed, was an agreement on the manner in which future disputes would be conciliated. Apparently this question was to be solved by provision for port committees in each port. Each committee would include a representative of the shipowners and the unions.
