- Landon Defeated by 4 Million More Votes Than Hoover Was in 1932.
Times Special NEW YORK, Dec. 14—~The com- ~ plete count of every ballot cast Nov. 3 revealed today that President Roosevelt was re-elected over Gov. Alfred M. Landon ‘by 11,070,433 votes, | Mr. Landon received 917,907 more votes than did former President Herbert Hoover in 1932, but he lost to Mr. Roosevelt by four million more votes than Mr. Hoover.
The complete count was the official tabulation of the canvassing boards of 47 states. One state, Rhode Island—the smallest in the Union—has not announced its of~ ficial canvass, because of alleged discrepancies in figures copied fro voting machines used for the firs time in November,
The Rhode Island official result will not be announced for two weeks, but the United Press accounted for its 245 precincts election night, jand, since the state's own vote is comparatively small, any variation between the official iand unofficial figures, can not change the totals for the nation beyond fractions.
Popular Vote Increased
Mr. Roosevelt won in 1932 with a plurality of 7,060,016. He was reelected by more than 11,000,000 votes, a gain of 4,000,000. This gain in the tremendous increase in popular vote which reached a new high at 45,647,248, compared with 39,816,522 in 1932. Gov. Landon’s gain over Mr. Hoover’s poll also was due to this avalanche of new votes. In fact, the two major parties drew all the support of the increased voting, while the minority parties showed losses collectively and individually, excepl

Indiana’s Electoral Vote
Cast for Roosevelt
Indiana officially cast its 14 electoral votes for President Roosevelt and Vice President John Garner in a ceremony in the state House of Representatives today. The vote was reported by Dale J. Crittenberger of Anderson, elector at large, to Gov. McNutt and Secretary of State August Mueller. There were two pinch hitters in the ceremony. Omer Stokes Jackson, Democratic state chairman, voted for John Hinchman, Greenfield, and Earl Crawford, Governor's executive secretary, voted for Alpheus Adair, Portland.
