Two lectures by Dr. Fay-Cooper Cole, University of Chicago, featured today’s final sessions of the Indiana History Conference. He was
to speak at 2:30 p. m. in the State Library on “Some Conclusions From Archaeological Work in Illinois,” and tonight in the Claypool Hotel on “The Influence of the Indian on the Settlement of Indiana.” The importance of an adequate |C navy for the United States was stressed by Admiral Hugh Rodman, Washington, night in the Claypool. “Let -us profit by the thousands of years that the world has been in existence and realize that no matter how fairly we may deal with others, the obligation of self-defense will be thrust pon us at any time,” Admiral Rodman said. “Our safety and independence lies in our preparedness and strength to meet it.”
DRIVE TO LICENSE CORPORATIONS SEEN
Congress May Act to Attain Primary NRA Objectives.
By United Press WASHINGTON, Dec. 12.—Drives will be started in both houses soon after Congress convenes Jan. 5 for Federal licensing of corporations to attain primary objectives of the defunct NRA, it was learned today. Senator Joseph O. O’Mahoney (D.,, Wyo.), former Assistant Postmaster General, who introduced the proposal last session, is completing his new bill. He said that Rep. James M. Mead (D. N. Y., will place a companion bill before the House.
3 POLICEMEN PASS PROMOTION TESTS
Three recommendations for promotion to rank of sergeants in the police department are to be presented to the Safety Board Tuesday, it was learned today. More than 30 patrolmen attended the promotion school, but only three passed examinations for the five vacancies in the uniform division and six in the detective division, {accmding to Chief Morrissey. Those tentatively selected, pending board approval, are reported to be Radio Patrolman John Ambuhl, Patrolmen James Senteney and Joseph Commiskey. Patrolmen George Baker and Edward Miers, acting sergeants -for several months, are expected to continue until another promotion school is held.
VISITING EXHIBITORS GET POULTRY PRIZES
When the Indianapolis National Poultry Exposition ends its five-day show tomorrow in the Manufacturers’ Building at the State Fairground, most of the prizes; will be taken by fanciers and owners out of the state. More than 1000 ducks, geese, chickens, pigeons and rabbits were entered. Fanciers said it has been one of the best shows of its kind ever held here. The annual meeting of the board

noon and the annual bangues tonight. Next year’s Shy is to be held Dec. 8 to 12.
