State Tax Comnission Acts on Appeals Taken From Lake County.
The State Tax Commission today fixed the personal property valuation of six large industrial firms in Lake County. The valuations had
been appealed from the Lake Coun-.
.ty Board of Review. The valuation of -the American Sheet & Tin Plate Co. Gary, was set at $2,515,780, as compared to last year’s assessment of $1,500,440. The Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corp., Gary, which last year was valued at $13,950,000, was fixed at $14,303,190; Gary Tube Corp., last year, $522,800, new valuation, $487,670; Universal Atlas Cement Co. Gary, $2,304,700 to. $2,204,900, and American Bridge
Co., Gary, new valuation, $860,550. The valuations of the Board of Review were not changed for these five firms. The Board of Review fixed the Inland Steel Corp. (East Chicago) valuation at $3,950,000, and the state commission ‘raised this to $5,200,000. Last year's valuation was $6,200,000.
SOCIETY TO DISCUSS REHABILITATION PLAN
Vocatighal rehabilitation and the workmen's compensation law are to be discussed by the Marion County Bociety for the Physically Handicapped at its meeting in the state employment office, 20 Virginia-av, at 7:30 p. m. todef. Expected to attend are Slater Bartlow, state education department vocational rehabilitation supervisor; Martin PF.
