SOIL PROGRAM PROVIDES FOR REPLACEMENTS

Pasture and Hay Crops Are Given Consideration in 1937 Plan.

Zlimes Special ; LAFAYETTE, Ind, Dec. 11.—~The 1937 soil conservation program permits planting of emergency pasture and hay crops to replace seedlings destroyed by drought last summer, it was announced today by L. M. Vogler, state agriculturgl conservation committee chairman, “Farmers whose soil-conserving crops were destroyed will have full opp=-*anity to quality for full payment by matching acres shifted - from soil-depleting uses with new seedings of soil conserving crops,” he said. . “The proportion of total payments which may be earned in 1937 through practices which maintain and restore productivity will be greater than in 1936 on farms which normally have a large percentage of crop land devoted to soilconserving uses ang on farms where the production of fruit or vegetables is the major enterprise. “Corn acreage limits will be established for individual farms in ‘areas where corn for grain is a major crop as in Indiana. The corn acreage limit will conforpn to good conservation practices and on the average will be slightly less than the 1036 planted acreage.”
