Lop Ambers (above) is to take e veteran Jimmy McLarnin in a 10-round battle in New York tonight, It will be a non-title affair. Ambers is the world’s. lightweight fistic champion and McLarnin is former welter king.

Amateur Ring Lads Perform

A strong, evenly matched preliminary card of six bouts will support the lightweight battle at the Armory tonight between Johnny Krukemeier, of the Chevrolet Body Plant, and Milton (Young) Bess, Negro star of the Bess A. C., in the feature match of Roy Wallace’s amateur fistic program. Several weeks ago Bess shaded Kr meier in a fast four-round engagement here. Bess is rated by many as the most promising young scrapper Indianapolis has turned out .in recent years, but Krukemeier has been in hard training and is confident of evening the score tonight. Tonight's main go is scheduled over the five-round route. A hard-fought bout is expected in the semi-windup when Harry Brown, hard-hitting Beech Grove middleweight with a long list of knockouts to his credit, meets Fred, Sheridan of the Boyce A. C,, in a three-rounder. Four other threeround matches follow: Tommy LeFever, Oliver. A. C., vs. Leroy Dycus, Bess A. C,, bantamweights. Walter Johnson, Oliver A. Ross is defending against Izzy Jannazo of New York here next Friday night, and the winner is committed to give challenger Ceferino Garcia of the Philippines a shot at the title within 60 days.. Although McLarnin is favored, even his strongest backers will concede that if he wins he will have to do it early in the bout. . The longer it goes the less chance he will have against his younger . and stronger opponent, for Jimmy is approaching his thirtieth birthday.
