Packard for 1937 has taken some of the longest steps in its entire history to bring about a balanced line of cars, or rather several lines, with which it now completely covers the field in logical and consistent steps, from a completely new car starting at $795 at the factory, to the big, ultra-luxurious Packard Twelve with a top factory list price of $5900. The instant and continuing success experienced by Packard two years ago when it went into a new Jower priced fleld with its One Twenty line of cars has been matched with the reception accorded the Packard Six, the company’s newest offering and the car with which it has still further broadened its market by entering the $800 price field.

Nash engineers found, after careful testing, that whether the former louvers were opened or closed had no effeet on the operating temperature of the engine. They also found that closed louvers brought about quieter operation.

Any appraisal of American business at this stage of recovery is most encouraging and produces the inevitable conclusion that nothing can stop the forward stride during 1937, according to Harlow ‘H. Curtiss, president of the Buick Motor Co. “There appears, in fact, a tendency on the part of the public not fully to recognize the extent to which real recovery has taken place. The state of business affairs in the United States is much better than we realize,” he said. “The worst depression in the history of the world left the nation jolted and dazed. In addition to its regular Cord front-drive models-for 1037 Auburn has announced a new line of 170-horse power supercharged Cords, and

built on a 132-inch wheelbase, ac-

cording to “Monty” Monfgomery, manager, Auburn ‘Automobile Sales

Corp., 1021 N, Meridian-st.

Body types of the supercharged line are the same as. in the regular Cord models: A Westchester five-passenger sedan, and a five-passenger convertible phaeton sedan with disappearing top, and a sportsman’s

coupe with a similarly disappearing top. This latter model has an extra large baggage compartment. The owner-chauffeur-driven Berline, built on a 132-inch wheelbase is offered for the approval of those who desire a two-purpose car that’s smart and in good taste. The partition glass between the front and rear compartments disappears coms pletely into the back of the front | seat when not in use and the car becomes a regular sedan with con- j; siderable extra roominess. ‘It follows ‘the lines in‘ general appearance of the regular Cords, ‘but. due to its

longer wheelbase there is an addi‘tional five inches in length ‘of the

rear compartment and two inches in the..front compartment. “An additional inch and a half of head room has: also been provided.

The power plant and driving mechanism Transmission and differential are closely coupled in this unit and both are sprung weight. This design eliminates the conventional long drive shaft as well as several hundred pounds of unsprung weight, resulting in a more effective delivery of power, less vibration and adding immeasurably to the quality of the car’s ride. Rubber insulators’are employed at many points in Ford V-8 cars for 1937. They are used in the shock absorber connecting links, ball
