Radical changes in exterior ap-

pearance, increased roominess in in- | |

terior dimensions and the addition of a number of important new en-

gineering advancements feature the Chrysler line for 1937. In introducing the new line, Chrysler announces its entrance into the lowpriced field with a car that it expects to increase the volume of its production to double the 1938 figure. The new Ilowpriced car, which has been named the Royal, is large, handsome and high powered. The company makes it plain that the Royal is not built to sell at a price, but is even finer in performance, beauty, C. H. Wallerich comfort, roadability, safety and economy than its predecessors, The great demand for Chryslers in 1938 and the anticipation of a much greater demand in 1937, plus increased plant space, new machinery and greater manufacturing efliciency have made it possible to bring a car embodying all of Chrysler's fine features and with a full measure of the high quality that is traditional with the Chrysler name into a price range lower than any previously occupied by a Chrysler Six. Interior dimensions have been s0 generously increased that the Royal has a roominess previously associated with much more expensive cars.

Twenty Body Styles

The line comprises four cars with a total of 20 body styles. They are the Chrysler Royal with 93 horse power and 199 inches overall length; the Chrysler Imperial, with 110 horse power and 204 inches overall length; the Chrysler Custom Imperial with 130 horse power; and 223 inches overall length, apd the Chrysler Airflow with. 130; horse power and 213 inches overall length, according to C. H. Wallerich, president of C. H. Wallerich, Inc.,'950 N. Meridian - st.,, Chrysler - Plymouth distributor for the Indianapolis territory. The Royal is made in 10 body styles, covering the requirements of every possible prospect. They are: Business coupe, rumble seat coupe,

Six body styles are offered in the Imperial, namely, business coupe, rumble seat coupe, convertible coupe, two-door touring broughain, four-door. touring sedan and convertible sedan. The Custom Imperial comes in seven-passenger sedan and sedan-limousine models. The Airflow is offered in sixpassenger sedan and coupe body styles.

Gold Seal Engine

Heading the list of 1937 features in the Royal is an amazing new Gold Seal engine, which produces 93 horsepower with 228.1 cubic inches piston displacement. This tremendous power, which gives the car a safety reserve at all normal driving ‘speeds, : is delivered with a smoothness, efficiency and economy never before possible in an engine of comparable size.

The high compression ratio of 6.5 to 1, the highest ever Sldaien in an engine of this bore, one of the principal factors in Bobsnd horsepower with economy. Valves have been newly designed and increased in size to give greater volumetric efficiency. In the exhaust valves a new material, Austenitic steel, - is used. This is a nonamagnetic steel with greater strength and hardness at the high operating temperatures of exhaust valves than the usual valve metal. It resists burning,

acidity and corrosion and thus con-

tributes to long wear and efficient operation while reducing the necessity for grinding and replacement. Valve tappets have selflocking screws which do not require locking nuts .and are easier to adjust to proper valve clearances. There has been a change in the piston design for greater efficiency. “U”-type pistons are used because they have greater strength than the “T-type and add measurably to oil economy.

Seats Are Widened

Chrysler body engineers have made a notable contribution to the new Royal. - The width of the front cushion has been increased from 44 to 47 inches, giving ample room for three persons. The width of the rear seat cushion has been increased 2; inches and now measures 48% inches. The body meas-

ures 3% inches wider at the cowl

than formerly and the windshield is 43% inches wide, improving vision for greater safety. The shaft tunnel has been eliminated from the rear compartment through the use of the hypoid rear axle. This has been accomplished without sacrificing the comfort of Chrysler's “chair-height” seats or any of the room din the compartment. The compartment floor is 2% inches longer and 5 inches wider. The body is 53 inches wide at the center pillars and 54% inches at the rear pillars. Elbow room in the rear seat is 57% ‘inches. The newly designed ‘instrument panel has the instruments and accessories conveniently grouped and

so well illuminated that every figure and character is plainly visible at night. : Every control. is flush with the surface of the panel and all knobs and dangerous protuberances have been completely banished both from the outside and inside of the car. This is done in the interest of safety, as records show that pLo- | truding controls and long, pointed handles are the cause of many in

Juries in automobile accidents. An-| other cause of accidents is a low |

instrument board, so this has been raised high enough to clear a man’s knees in the new Royal. Hardware ‘ and ‘trim and upholstery are of the most attractive design, giving the interior of the car a luxurious appearance generally associated - with much more eéxpensive vehicles. The ventilation system has been improved. The ventilating windshield has been adopted and the large screened cowl ventilator retained. Ventilating wings are built into the forward section of front door windows. These swing on a wide arc scooping air into the car. The. ventilating wing section of the window is stationary but the rear section including the divider strip can be lowered completely. Rear ‘quarter windows on the four-door models swing outward on friction pivots in the same manner as the front door ventilating wings. Rear door windows lower completely out of sight and rear quarter windows on two-door sedan models lower almost flush with the sill.
