BUICK STRESSES RIDING QUALITY

Refinements Add to Comfort on Road and Greater Driving Safety.

There is a cradle-like softness in 2 ride in the 1837 Buick due to improvements in design, company officials declare. Buick’s ride is improved for 1837 through refinements in knee-action front wheel suspension, double actIng shock absorbers, the addition of a second sway stabilizer bar at the rear, retention of the torque tube drive, equal distribution of weight, low pressure tires and longer wheelbases on the Series 40 and 60 cars. By the use of front and rear stabilizers, Buick engineers have improved handling qualities and at the same time eliminated excessive roll when turning corners or making curves at high speed. Increased rigidity of the steering mechanism reduces the effect of side winds upon the car. Road shock has been minimized by the use of two high rate coil springs placed on each side of the steering connecting rod ball joint which are adjusted to allow about .04-inch freedom of motion. Thus freedom of the steering system is rigidly controlled and shock elimination is achieved without the undesirable effects of large deflections, Hydraulic brakes of improved design are used in all 1937 Buick cars.

DEFROSTING DEVICE CLEARS WINDSHIELD

One of the serious driving probconfronting motorists for many years has been the defrosting of windshields, during the winter months. Impaired vision has constituted a serious hazard during snow and sleet storms. Oldsmobile, in 1937, offers a device which tests have proven far superior to any other developed. This device is a unit attached to the top of the hot water heater. It is operated by a centrifugal type blower, which forces hot air directly on the windshield through two shellshaped outlets. This new defrosting system is’ offered as an accessory, and special provisions are made for its installation.

SINGLE STEEL UNIT FORMS FISHER BODY

General Motoss this year -introduces the new “UGnisteel” turret top body by Fisher, a body that is a single unit of steel, as the name implies. “Formed” by the welding of the steel inner and outer panels into a permanent shock-resisting structure, the new body provides double-walled protection for the driver and his passengers at all strategic points and offers greater resistance to torsional, beam and compression

| stresses than has ever before been known,” Edward F. Fisher, general manager of Fisher Body, explained today. “Research and experimentation preceding the introduction of the new type of construction dates back more than 10 years and actual development work more than three years. The considerable period between the initial experiments and the production of the finished product, which marks the 1937 Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, La Salle and Cadillac, is the result of the fact that engineering knowledge and production facilities only recently progressed far enough to achieve what Fisher officials conceded to be a satisfactory goal.”

That 1937 will be a great year for the automobile industry is reliably predicted, with indices pointing t0'8 more than 4,000,000 car production vear and sales likely to top the record year of 1929; but of cig importance to the public, 1927 also be a banner year from {h standpoint of those who buy moter cars, J. B. Wagstaff, general sales manager of De Soto, said today, “Never before has the dollar T worth} as much in car value as
